As the world finds itself closer to a Nuclear Apocalypse now than at any point during the Atomic Age, perhaps it is time to revisit what we unequivocably know about what would happen in the event a nuclear war were to take place. Seemingly, the world has developed chronic amnesia about this topic, but thirty or so odd years ago, everybody on the planet KNEW this information and acted accordingly. I suppose in a world where many people can live in an Instagram filtered, Tik Tok or Facebook meme existence where the nasty intrusions of the Real World are few and far between, the majority of the planet can indeed exist in a weirded out alternate reality where nothing is going on. We don't need Zuckerberg's Meta-Verse when so many millions are already living in their own Fake Worlds.
Russia continues to threaten Nuclear War against NATO and allies on a daily basis, so much so the news doesn't bother to report about it. Never mind that becoming so inured to the threat of nuclear destruction is a danger in itself. Many people believe that the war in Ukraine and Russia's war against "The West" simply has no consequence on their lives. How wrong they are. Russian state television seems to be acclimating the Russian people to the idea that a nuclear conflict is now unavoidable and they should prepare for it. Daily broadcasts continue to spout rhetoric that Putin is to be the savior of the Russian culture & society and that in order for it to survive, the collective West and its undue influence must be obliterated from the planet. A mass extinction level event to save their culture from the West's contaminating influence and "Woke" society. Ideology is now a global weapon.
Many political pundits are dubious of Putin's atomic threats, most lawmakers in Washington don't take the threats seriously in any way. A very risky attitude, especially when dealing with someone who has now become clearly unhinged. Trying to predict what a frenzied despot who has backed himself into a corner will do is practically impossible. Normal rules and regulations don't apply to someone with unlimited powers and a finger on the nuclear launch buttons.
Some experts believe that Putin will use "tactical" nuclear weapons on the battlefield in Ukraine, or that he might even detonate a nuclear test somewhere in the region, with the belief Russia will engage in a "limited" nuclear strike. Yet, a Reagan-Era war game simultation proved that there could be no such thing as a limited nuclear war, mostly due to the Cold War arms race between the US & Russia. The implications from this once Top Secret report known as "Proud Prophet" still hold true today and were used as the basis for the US nuclear deterrence program for decades. A recent comprehensive Rutgers University study about the possible effects of a full-scale nuclear exchange between the United States & Russia shows the bleakness of the situation. The respected educational institution released a video documenting their findings called Plan A, proving the old cliché of "There is no Plan B":

The United Nations also recently released their own report regarding the Global implications of a nuclear exchange between Russia & the US, finding that over five billion people would die across the planet after the event in a five-year span of time, mostly from famine and deprivation caused by the "nuclear winter" created by the radioactive dust and ash blown high into the atmosphere that would encircle the globe, blocking vital sunlight and causing destruction of essential crops and the mass death of livestock, poultry and fish supplies.
Even more sobering, at least to me, is that the report did not take into consideration that other nuclear powers would more than likely launch their weapons in retaliation and/or defense of their own countries and territories. Nuclear powers such as China, North Korea, Israel and maybe India and Pakistan would perhaps feel compelled to protect their populations or settle their own regional scores, adding to the already unimaginable nightmare.
As I said, "No Plan B"...
