The migrant crisis continues to create havoc throughout a large portion of Europe, as an influx of people, a majority escaping from war torn Syria, file across countries in search of a new home. Emergency migrant centers have opened up, but many nations are unequipped or unprepared to deal with tens of thousands of people, many arriving with only the clothes on their backs.
Medical officials fear disease outbreaks in the camps, as regional authorities struggle to cope with the humanitarian crisis that threatens to collapse local governments. Sanitation is a major concern, as is providing adequate food and shelter for the endless throng of refugees arriving daily. Some wealthier nations such as Germany, France and Sweden have guaranteed public housing and medical care to those than can make it to their borders, creating a sense of urgency among the migrants.
It has been estimated that at least 700,000 migrants have entered Europe since the beginning of 2015, with some agencies estimating two to three times that amount will make the perilous trek over the next one to three years.
