Millions of southern California residents were witness to a bright blue object that resembled a comet hurtling through the nighttime skies! Social media exploded with tweets, Facebook status updates and Instagram posts regarding the bizarre sign in the sky, with people suggesting everything from a meteor to an alien invasion!
Naturally, the US military machine copped to the mystery, saying that an unarmed missile was launched from a nuclear sub off the coast of California. Never mind that there was no announcement prior to the launch to warn the local population of just such an exercise. Certainly, no one would need to be notified in advance when a potentially deadly object (an unarmed missile can still cause death and destruction) is to be launched over one of the largest population centers on the planet. And, of course, no one in the military could have conceived that launching said object during hours of darkness where flaming objects of possible destruction would be more blatantly obvious to the millions of people living below the launch site. Because, why would you consider such things when you are spending hundreds of millions of tax payer dollars to conduct your little bit of fun? Unless the organization responsible for the "test" was trying to make some sort of big, bold statement. (A launch in Florida back in June created a similar buzz...)
Off-hand, I can't think of too many things that would make a bigger, bolder statement than launching a missile over one the largest cities in the world and laughing as the sheeple hit social media to post their "selfies" with the mystery missile! Baaaaaaaaaaaa......
