A strange, eerie "Ghost City in the Sky" has appeared over two separate provinces in China this week. Thousands of astonished citizens witnessed the ghostly apparition, first in the Guandong province, then a few days later in the Jiangxi province. Both apparitions only lasted a few minutes each, and were caught on both video and by photographs.
Local media reported the bizarre occurrence, showing videos and still photographs which apparently showed the skyline to some unknown metropolis floating on the clouds. Meteorologists claimed the apparition was a naturally-occurring phenomenon known as Fata Morgana, a highly rare mirage that reflects nearby objects into a narrow band right above the horizon. This phenomena doesn't normally reflect images so perfectly as to be wholly recognizable, however.
A similar incident took place in China (yet again) back in 2011, this time directly over a river. The frequency of occurrences in China have caused some to speculate the country's overwhelming and potentially catastrophic pollution crisis is to blame, with a majority of the country tainted by deadly toxic pollutants in both the sky and water, creating eerie optical illusions. Equally eerie are China's terrestrial ghost cities, enormous, modern metropolises that sprawl across the landscape, full of monuments, skyscrapers and broad avenues, but empty of people!
Others attribute the phenomenon to a Top Secret Chinese technological breakthrough, akin to Project Blue Beam, which is being tested on the local populace, which would be used on the billions of citizens of the nation during times of extreme social unrest, a global emergency or war in an attempt to squelch any civil disobedience without using normal police state method brutality.
