Rise of the Machines: The mammoth Chinese military operation is busily creating an army of drones to rival any human-based fighting machine, according to a newly released report from Pentagon officials in the US capital of Washington.
The PLA (People's Liberation Army) is currently in production of over 42,000 UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) as part of the nation's increasingly powerful military prowess, states the Pentagon report, released on Friday. The autonomous drones will serve as a complement to the super power's army , air force and navy. With a population expected to exceed two billion people by the end of the century, the Asian nation has amassed the world's largest military complex, and continues to invest trillions of dollars a year into beefing up its super power status, with intense war games on land, sea and by air.
China has invested billions of dollars into drone research to create stealth UAVs to use for high-tech spying purposes, but an army of drones would serve another purpose entirely. Fleets of drones could be used for reconnaissance missions during a non-nuclear invasion into enemy territory (such as the US), without having to risk the lives of soldiers. Any war game preparations with the United States would factor in that US citizens are armed, and would inflict heavy casualties on an invading [human] force. Drones could be utilized to precede a human invasion on enemy soil, spying out armed enclaves and checking for any weaknesses in the military chain of command.
China has seemingly been preparing for war for at least the past decade. Mammoth "ghost cities" are being constructed in areas far from the Chinese coast line. The cities, capable of housing millions of people, mysteriously remain virtually empty of citizens, according to spy satellite data. Experts believe that the cities being constructed are in preparation for war or some other natural disaster, where refugees can be relocated during a time of great crisis.
