The countdown to "Climate Chaos" marches on, and we are currently at 137 days until the warning date is reached!
Any perfunctory glance at the weather headlines as you are busily posting your Facebook status about eating a box of raisins (along with a smiling selfie, of course) should make it quite clear that "We in heap big trouble here, folks". [Winter Storm Warnings in the US West, Tropical Storm Ana forms over a month before hurricane season begins, tornadoes and flooding in Oklahoma, Drought conditions grow desperate in California, Super Typhoon Noul devastates the Philippines]... If not, allow me to elucidate. (Of course, if the weather happens to be nice where you are at the moment, feel free to ignore this post, because that is how climate change works, you know?)
First of all, "What Climate Chaos date?" Oh, yeah, need to explain that one. Last year, the French foreign minister Laurent Fabius made the claim that the world had "500 days" to prepare for "climate chaos" at a joint conference with the United States Secretary of State John Kerry at the State Department, made at the behest of President Obama. Although Fabius did not clarify precisely what he was referring to in his bold statement, you don't have to be a weathered private investigator to figure out from where the warning derives.
Is there a specific threat in regards to the date, which happens to be September 26, 2015? My feeling on balance is, no. A specific weather-related catastrophe would be hard to pin down at a date so far out, however, other threats could be pinpointed to a specific time. An asteroid or cometary threat could be calculated down to the very minute of impact, although I am not receiving any specific intel regarding an impact event. Needless to say, a significant impact event would create massive, global climate upheaval, well outside the zone of impact, depending on size of the celestial body, due to the enormous tons of debris an impact would thrust into the earth's atmosphere.
Another climate buster would be volcanoes! With record-breaking volcanic activity being recorded across the globe, this topic is certainly to garner more attention. Especially after the Social Science Research Council released their bomb-shell report, claiming increasing volcanic activity and solar changes would contribute in bringing colder weather patterns, in particular to the Northern Hemisphere, thus shortening growing seasons for essential crops! A map showing current volcanic/seismic activity proves alarming:
