1980s androgynous pop superstar Boy George, the lead singer of the Big Hair Decade group Culture Club, is move-move-moving away, darling...from his posh digs in Londontowne to the wacky and wild streets of Hollyweird, California!
Boy, real name George O'Dowd, is teaming up with reality TV super-producers Bunim/Murray Productions, to chronicle his new life away from his hometown of London, UK, and in the Concrete Jungles of LA, bringing fans along for the [bumpy/hilarious] ride. Boy George and his group Culture Club had a long string of worldwide hits in the mid-to-early 80s, including the unforgettable Number Ones "Karma Chameleon", "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?" and "Time (Clock of the Heart)".
The Boy's angelic singing voice and penchant for glamour-boy make-up, trilbys and kimonos quickly rocketed him to international superstardom in those heady days of the early 80s, before he found himself side-lined by a raging drug problem that almost cost him his career... and his life. Several run-ins with the law on both sides of the Atlantic kept him in the headlines, before he finally sorted it all out and got his life on the right track.
Regarding the upcoming reality series, George says, "If Marge Simpson met Dolly Parton and went dancing with Ziggy Stardust, it wouldn’t come close to what you’ll see." As to the rhetorical question as to why do a reality show, he responds, “Why now — why not? Why me — who else?”
Boy George has been a highly sought-after DJ on the international club scene for well over a decade, and, judging from the photograph above, he looks amazing! The as-yet-to-be-named series is slated to begin filming this summer.
